Judge Robert J. Luck Recipient of Dade County Bar Association Presidential Award.
In September 2017, the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA) will host the Enchantment Under the Stars 101st Installation Gala to honor the Presidential Award winners and to install new Officers and Directors of the Dade County Bar & Young Lawyers Section. The Honorable Robert J. Luck, Third District Court of Appeal Judge, has been selected by the DCBA as one of four recipients of the Presidential Award. The Honorable Leslie B. Rothenberg, Chief Judge, Third District Court of Appeal, will be swearing-in the DCBA Directors.
||Investiture of Judge Norma S. Lindsey
On Friday, August 25, 2017, the Court held the Investiture of Judge Norma S. Lindsey as the 38th member of the Third District Court of Appeal bench. Judge Wendy Berger of the Fifth District Court of Appeal administered The Oath of Office. The ceremony was followed by a reception hosted by the Dade County Bar Association.
||Passing the Gavel Ceremony
On July 7, 2017, at the Florida International University College of Law, the Court held the Passing the Gavel Ceremony to honor outgoing Chief Judge Richard J. Suarez and new Chief Judge Leslie B. Rothenberg.
During the ceremony, the Court honored former Chief Judge Richard J. Suarez with the unveiling of his portrait. Family, friends, and colleagues applauded as the artist, Jeffrey Bass, revealed the portrait. Judge Suarez's portrait, like those of other former Chief Judges of the Court, will be displayed in the courtroom at the Third District Court of Appeal.
ABOTA's program with the Third District Court of Appeal
ABOTA strives to educate and inspire students to have knowledge of and respect for the United States Constitution, our system of justice and the value of an independent judiciary. To promote interest in law and civics education, ABOTA provides students and teachers with court visits, presentations, roundtables and workshops, such as the current programs with the Third District Court of Appeal, James Otis Lecture presentation for high school students, and the Teachers Law School for public school teachers. Through these efforts, ABOTA aims to provide teachers and students with a better understanding and appreciation of the Seventh Amendment right to a civil jury trial.
